What’s the Deal?

You put together the lineup, book and promote the show. We provide:

Production

We provide quality in-house audio & lighting production (specifications available on request). You are also welcome to bring your own qualified sound engineer.

Hospitality

Home-made hospitality for artists is a priority for us. We want you to feel welcome from the moment you arrive. Dietary needs and reasonable riders can be catered for with sufficient prior notice.

Artist Room

Upstairs is our air-conditioned, clean, comfortable & secure artist room complete with couches, min-kitchen, full-length mirror and pool table. (Please note we are unable to provide a private bathroom).

Door Staff

Our team members manage door sales & ticket checks.

Supervision

Friendly but effective supervision keeps everyone safe

Food

Snacks (chocolate bars, chips, etc) and soft drinks are available to fans at very reasonable prices, free water is also provided.

Who runs SUB?

SUB is run by a team of volunteers who are passionate about hosting excellent live music events for Under 18s and All Ages audiences - safe, supervised, alcohol-free and drug-free. Mike Cutter is our manager. SUB has hosted 6-10 gigs a year since 2011.

History

After a trial with Skipping Girl Vinegar in another venue in 2010, we began hosting shows in our current venue in late 2011, featuring the amazing Passenger as our headline act! Since then we've hosted lots of successful shows for local, interstate and even international artists, such as 5 Seconds of Summer, BriBry, New Empire, Patrick James & Woodlock.

Where is SUB?

venueexternalSUB's venue is in leafy Hawthorn, an inner eastern suburb of Melbourne. We are located just east of the CBD and we are an easy 5 minutes walk from public transport.

Hawthorn is one of the safest suburbs in Melbourne — so your fans will feel safe — and their parents will too.

For artists on tour, there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and accommodation options just a few minutes' drive or walk away.

So why perform at SUB?

SUB events are ideal for upcoming artists, or intimate/secret shows for well-known acts and works great for small or large shows (50-250).

We are a dedicated All-Ages and Under 18 venue, committed to making it easy, safe and affordable for young fans to see great artists!

We aim to host shows with accessible ticket pricing, featuring artists who share our vision and are willing to passionately promote their shows.

Please note: we do not provide a ‘rent-a-crowd’, artists must be willing to promote their shows!

We are intentionally not-for-profit and operated by volunteers, and we believe that our funding model ensures both reasonable ticket prices and the best return to artists and promoters.

We believe we are the friendliest and most affordable dedicated U18 and All-Ages venue in Melbourne.

What's the SUB venue like?

We have a clean, carpeted venue which holds up to 250-300 people (standing-room-only). Bean-bags are provided for gigs with 100 pre-sales or less.

The main space is approximately 13x10m, ensuring an intimate experience.

We have a 600mm high stage of 3x6m (total 18sqm) — providing great visibility to the back of the room so every patron can see and enjoy and plenty of room for the band. The stage can be configured to different layouts or sizes as required.

Our venue space is chilled at 50-100 patrons and has a capacity of approximately 250 (up to 300 in winter months).

It’s ideal for afternoon or evening shows, and for daylight shows the venue is blacked out (unless by request) — so the atmosphere is always great no matter the time of day.

Our volunteer team are a mix of adults and younger people and we always aim to make fans and artists feel welcomed, valued and supported.

The SUB venue space is provided courtesy of Hawthorn West Baptist Church, who we thank for their generous support. Note that SUB is not only for 'Christian' bands, whatever that means. All artists are welcome!

However: please be aware of the age of your audience and behave appropriately on and off stage in our venue, for the safety and protection of our patrons. To ensure a welcoming space for everybody: racist, homophobic, sexist or abusive language or behaviour will NOT be tolerated on or off the stage and will result in ejection from the venue.
